DO YOU RECOGNIZE THIS DUMP?

I've been there - you've been there .... think .... That's right! It's the crappy building that passes as the Hudson Public Library.

A rousing endorsement for Mayor Breault on OTBL said this: "Small town mayors have the power to derail all kinds of loony leftist schemes and creeping socialism like building a new Taj Mahal city library on the river."

So let's join the Borderliners in thanking Jack Breault for making our fine city the Wal-Mart of Western Wisconsin. What the heck, let's just throw a few magazines in the back of the turnip truck and call it a library.

Thanks Jack.

P.S. I'm not voting for you.

OTBL PROMOTES MUCHLINSKI

BREAKING NEWS .....

Killbear: On tonight's show our guest is Hudson citizen Bob Muchlinski, who has some exciting news to share. Welcome Bob.

Muchlinski: Chris, I'm overwhelmed tonight by the honor granted me by the management at OTBL. I've just been informed that I've been promoted from Notorious Teacher Spouse to Obnoxious St. Paul Travelers Lawyer.

Killbear: Hey, that's fantastic!

Muchlinski: Chris, now that they have shown some confidence in me, I'm really going to try hard to make a decent living for my family. You know, being a teacher's spouse pays only slightly more than internet nut salesman.

Killbear: Tell me about it. Blog Administrator ain't getting me out of this fourplex.

Muchlinski: Hang in there Chris. I know we want to run all the borderliners off to Bloomington, Illinois, but that takes time. We have to be patient. Turnip trucks weren't built in a day.

Killbear: Thanks for coming. And tell you friend Captain Spaulding good luck in his school board write-in campaign.

CAPTAIN SPAULDING RALLY

This afternoon's parade in downtown Hudson was a wonderful success for school board write-in candidate Captain Spaulding. The candidate sang his Me Only campaign song: "Whatever it is, I'm against it."

If you missed the rally, you can still hear the song by clicking here. Minimize the player and it's almost like being there.

Sing along:

I don't know what they have to say,

It makes no difference anyway --

Whatever it is, I'm against it!

No matter what it is or who commenced it,

I'm against it!

Your proposition may be good,

But let's have one thing understood --

Whatever it is, I'm against it!

And even when you've changed it or condensed it,

I'm against it!

BORDERLINER PAYS $.01 TAX ON GUM

BREAKING NEWS

An anonymous Borderliner purchased a piece of Dubble Bubble today at the Auto Stop, paying 1 cent in sales tax - thereby contributing to the tax base for the first time this year. As he left, he was heard saying: "Yeehaw, I'm the boss of all public employees! They answer to me now! First thing I'm gonna do is go over and tell the school superintendent how to run things. Oh wait, then she would see my face and know who I am. Dang. Good gum though."

DO THE MATH: THIS AIN'T TOO BAD

OTBL Boxer Shorts Warrior Bill Danielson, who blogs from the comfort of his basement in Bloomington, Illinois, had this to say about casualties in Iraq:

"If you consider that there have been an average of 160,000 troops in the Iraq theater of operations during the last 22 months, and a total of 2112 deaths, that gives a firearm death rate of 60 per 100,000. The rate in Washington D.C. is 80.6 per 100,000. That means that you are about 25% more likely to be shot and killed in our Nation's Capitol, which has some of the strictest gun control laws in the nation, than you are in Iraq. Conclusion: We should immediately pull out of Washington."

I wonder how likely it is that Bill will be killed or maimed by a Improvised Explosive Device on his way to Wal-Mart tonight. Then again, that would only increase the kill rate by .001%. Not too bad - when you think of it that way.

.

WHO WATCHES FAUX NEWS?

THE HIGH COST OF WAITING

How much more is it going to cost Hudsonites to build our new schools if we just wait a few more years? Marshall Swift/Boeckh Corporation continually monitors building material costs and wage rates in nearly 3,000 areas of the U.S. to provide cost updates that reflect the current market. As the statistics below clearly demonstrate, building and labor costs continue to skyrocket.

Drywall: 2004 increase = 20.8%; 2005 increase = 16.9%

Ready-mixed Concrete: 2004 increase = 7.8%; 2005 increase = 9.6%

Copper & Brass Mill Shapes: 2004 increase = 32.2%; 2005 increase = 22.1%

Asphalt Shingles: 2005 increase = 10.1%

Steel Decking: 2005 increase = 24%; 2005 increase = 12.3%

Labor Costs: On average = up 3% per year.

I think the Hudson Anti-Public Education Group deserves a great big razzberry from Hudson for their continuing efforts to delay construction, which costs us all more money in the long run. Thanks guys for being the dimmest bulbs in the St. Croix Valley.

MUDSLINGING ACTION

I've been forced out of retirement to return to my homeland in the St. Croix River Valley to help chase the www.ontheborderline.net skunks out of the valley. Being a concerned member of the community, I am offering my services to any write-in candidates daring to challenge the evil OTBL empire that is conspiring to privatize the Hudson sewage plant and make it their global headquarters.

Soon you will see the OTBL's head school patrol-person, Jack Bauer, reduced to the status of an incompetent paralegal handling cases dealing with expired dog tags and leash law violations.

SPAULDING STUMPS FOR VOTES!!

Hudson school board write-in candidate Captain Spaulding is off and running on his campaign. Here he can be seen handing citizen Phigg Newton a Presidential Brochure in downtown Hudson. In this case, the brochure features Andrew Jackson. Candidate Spaulding is asking all citizens to vote for "Me Only." When asked about his positions regarding the schools, Candidate Spaulding replied, "Whatever it is, I'm against it!"

Letter To The Editor

Filed under: Politics Local, Education Hudson --- Cute Geese @ 8:38 am
-----------------------------

The following letter was written for the Holy Scared Oracle and not submitted due to the paper’s request. The paper has requested I not do this, because paid subscribers have started complaining that their canaries are suffering from constipation wherever they line their bird cages with my letters.

Dear Editor:

There have been numerous letters written to the paper in support of any number of candidates. Many people don’t realize, with the exception of candidate Jim “Bullet” Baker, that all the other candidates are part of an ever expanding conspiracy that includes the police, the local government, the HSO, the League of Women Voters, various librarians, YMCA, all government school officials and teacher union members suckling the teat of government sponsored larceny. Did I mention the Trilateral Commission and the owners of the Left of Center store?

Many of those same individuals say that our school district “pop fund” is under control yet our school system is making an astonishing amount of money on recycled aluminum cans. This year it is slightly over $11,000 per child. The way we figure it at the OTBL club house, that means each student has to spend $4.5 million on pop annually. If you were to line these empty pop cans up from the superintendent’s office to a certain golf course in Eau Claire, it would make a pile of baloney half the size of my ego. Presently, my allowance is only $1.50 a week. $11,000 is 20 years of allowance for me. In 20 years, my wife will retired and finally realize I’ve spent every weekday morning watching Clifford the Big Red Dog and having fantasies of washing my car with SpongeBob SquarePants. After I get done explaining this to her, I may be forced to get a paper route…but you can bet it won’t be carrying the HSO.

Many of the HSO letter writers over the past several months fall into one of two categories: those who agree with me or the socialist, collectivist, communist idiots. The later group of pond scum either benefits directly as an employee’s spouse’s uncle’s ex-brother-in-law’s former barber or the spouse’s librarian’s sister’s paperboy, or they benefit financially by providing goods and services to barbers and paperboys in the school district or by knowing where the district keeps that damn pop fund can. This also includes many unrelated people who make a living by actually working – a concept, as a self-proclaimed entrepreneur, I find hard to grasp. There are specific reasons why these people would like to see this conspiracy widen to eventually include the school district of my hometown Roswell, New Mexico.

Unlike my friends at www.ontheborderline.net who agree with everything I say – or else -- our school board has made decisions that I don’t agree with and I therefore deem them mistakes, at best, or, more realistically, another small puzzle piece of the entanglements of the underhanded, international conspiracy that may eventually force me to get a part time job and contribute to the tax base. Only as the growth slows and finally stops, will we start to see the white pines once again take root, start pushing their way back up through the deserted back top of our streets of Hudson, rightfully reclaiming the countryside and restoring the St. Croix Valley to the way it was in 1776. Then you will look back and see, as always, I was right and everybody was wrong.
If my boy Jim doesn’t win this election, the conspirators will have won. Soon the chauffeurs of teachers will be taking the food out of students’ mouths and selling it out of the window of their Cadillac to beggars like me on the street.

Only five candidates have voiced any concern at all about moving education forward, improving the curriculum to meet the expanding challenges of a rapidly diversifying world and having an open and honest outlook on the challenges ahead. A vote for any of these five candidates will serve to improve the school system and would do nothing to boost my ego and calm my Type-A agitation and irritability. I realize that most people not reading this will vote for three people. But, knowing that you readers at www.ontheborderline.nut find three to be a really large number – but smaller than the $4.5 million -- I am encouraging you to vote for only one candidate to minimize your confusion and the potential of excess drooling in the voting booth. If you are lucky enough to be a tenth as perfect as me and desire directions to Dr. Bill’s Mississippi Post-Election, Hot Tube party, then I recommend voting for only one person on April 1st- Jim Baker.

Love me!

I'M AFRAID YOU ARE NO MATCH FOR A JEDI KNIGHT.

JANE BAUER: MARRY ME!

Dearest Jane, How do I love thee? Let me count the ways.

I love how your pet name is Connie B.

I love the way you drool on your pillow and mumble "Hitchens, Hitchens, Hitchens ..." all night long.

I love the way you find a new way to slander good people like Deanna Cook-Shannon and Andy Lieffort every day.

I love the way your cold black heart is the size of a burnt match.

I love how you refuse to stick your chin out when you attack your enemies.

I love how you believe you are the boss of New Richmond and you try to push people around.

I love how you kick around and humiliate anyone you want to run off the plantation.

I love how you seek revenge and want to make people pay for what they did.

I love how you are a smart coward.

Mostly, I love how you are trying to destroy the New Richmond schools.

Dearest Jane, please leave Rick Hinz and Bob Sievert and come away with me to paradise. I will toast you with coffee champagne forevermore!

WEBSITE WISDOM

The Hudson Star-Observer has violated the Wisconsin Constitution by allowing a not-very-nice reader to comment negatively about a political candidate on the HSO website one week prior to the election. Critics of the HSO claim that the candidate is unable to set forth a rebuttal on the website because "his fingies is broken."

However, I found the comment quite interesting:

Article comment by: Bob Muchlinski

Although I sympathize with Mr. and Mrs. Teschner's concern about regular HSO letter writers attacking their neighbor Mr. Baker, I have to agree with you Mr. Whiteley on your feelings regarding Mr. Baker's school board campaign positions. I, too, attended the candidate forum, and found Mr. Baker to be more concerned with focusing his answers to please a radical anti-tax contingent of the populace than in speaking toward stewardship of the heart and soul of our community - our schools. He lost my vote right there. But, even more than that, his call for a bullet vote in his own favor was extraordinarily unprecendented for a political candidate in Hudson. I suspect that no other candidate would try to convince the public to vote for themselves and throw their other two votes away. In fact, none of them did. Can you imagine Brian Bell, Tracy Habisch-Ahlin, Tom Holland or Priscilla Wyeth even conceiving of such an idea? I think not. I've tried to be open minded about Mr. Baker the last two times he ran for school board and lost, but I think I must now conclude that he is just not the right choice for this community. But, I invite Mr. Baker to respond to my comments here on the HSO website anytime prior to the election on April 4th.

Internet Commenter Wins Invite with Lame Excuse

Kevin Whiteley, offered the following lame explaination in defense of his "cheater" comment on the HSO website.

"I am surprised. I posted that comment first thing
Friday morning. I'm aware of the policy to not include negative letters in the paper but I figured that they might allow it on-line since anyone can still comment on my critique. When it didn't show up by this morning I figured that they were not going to print it."

Well Kevin, we've heard that on before. I suppose you next you'll say "I didn't know my kepboard was loaded"?

For those who never had a chance to view Kevin's comment, (because it's buried so deep in the HSO web site
that only a dozen people know it's there) here's what he said.

Thursday nights School Board Candidate Forum, sponsorded by the Hudson Parents Group and The League of Women Voters provided the public with an excellent opportunity to observe the candidates and listen to their views. I attended, because in this election we are able to vote to send three candidates to the Board and I had only decided on two. After watching James Bakers arrogant antics during the forum I can honestly say that I will be casting my last vote elsewhere. When asked by the moderator to name three things that our schools do well, he seemed unable to come up with an answer. Instead he went off on an aimless rant concluding that the only thing our schools do well is to recklessly spend our money. At the end of the evening in a shocking display of hubris, he disparaged the other candidates by stating that the public should ignore them, and rather than casting three votes, that we should cast only one. Surprisingly, that vote should be for him alone! I believe that we need citizens on our School Board who will listen to the taxpayers and work towards building consensus regarding what is best for our schools and the community. It appears that Mr. Baker's intent is to be divisive. He will not be getting my vote. I am glad that I attended last nights forum. It was very insightful.

It's obvious that even Kevin wasn't aware of the vast conspiricy against OTBL orchestrated by the Newton Field Coffee Club and their clandestine members who have infiltrated the HSO editorial staff.
It really doesn't matter because intentionally cheating or not your comment has won you an invitation to the
Newton Field Coffee Club. The next meeting is scheduled at 1:32 A.M. near Newton Field. Come and join
the thousands of others who oppose Baker's 3rd bid for school board.
So, welcome on board Kevin, and don't forget to bring you bean grinder and duct tape to the next meeting.

Time: The Multitasking Generation

They're e-mailing, IMing and downloading while writing the history essay. What is all that digital juggling doing to kids' brains and their family life?

Today 82% of kids are online by the seventh grade, according to the Pew Internet and American Life Project. And what they love about the computer, of course, is that it offers the radio/CD thing and so much more--games, movies, e-mail, IM, Google, MySpace. The big finding of a 2005 survey of Americans ages 8 to 18 by the Kaiser Family Foundation, co-authored by Roberts, is not that kids were spending a larger chunk of time using electronic media--that was holding steady at 6.5 hours a day (could it possibly get any bigger?)--but that they were packing more media exposure into that time: 8.5 hours' worth, thanks to "media multitasking"--listening to iTunes, watching a DVD and IMing friends all at the same time. Increasingly, the media-hungry members of Generation M, as Kaiser dubbed them, don't just sit down to watch a TV show with their friends or family. From a quarter to a third of them, according to the survey, say they simultaneously absorb some other medium "most of the time" while watching TV, listening to music, using the computer or even while reading.

Sigmund und ze Taxpenis

Thank you for coming Mr. Taxpenis, please lie down on the couch. Yes, I think our psychoanalysis therapy is now complete and I would like to provide you with my considered professional opinion regarding your repressive subconscious. You are certainly a case I will be writing about in my journals for years to come. Quite extraordinary - quite. Such a level of penis envy I have not seen before. Clearly, as you passed through your adolescent phallic development, you encountered emotional trauma only measurable on the richter scale. The focus of your sexual impulses was your mother, however you feared your father and had extreme castration anxiety. You desired your mother yet you identified with a skunk in your backyard instead of your father. You employed your displacement defense mechanism to shift your desires from your mother to hanging around with skunks. You have repressed your Oedipus Complex and have obsessed over the government's taxation of your meager income, which you - only in your dreams - refer to as "wealth." The only cure is to spend all of your waking hours dreaming that you have an eight foot rocket for a penis, and selling holiday nuts. Good luck Mr. Taxpenis. You are going to need it. Oh, and here is my bill. And don't make me send the collection agency after you again you degenerate slug.

Vandals Improve Baker Image at No Charge to His Campaign

A letter slipped under the door of the editorial desk of HSO claimed responsibility for improvements made to the local candidate James Bakers Campaign signs.
The letter, signed by "The Newton Field Coffee Group", claimed they acted out a sense of charity and civic responsibility toward the Hudson Community.
The group claimed they were motivated to alleviate the suffering caused by eyestrain they felt observers must have suffered as they gawked at the 8 ft. tall monstrosities.
They also praised editors at HSO for their continued good work of censoring the local Anti-Education Group but they also alluded to dissention between battling NFCG factions. There had been rumors that one faction within the group felt it was better for AEG (The anti-education group ) to be allowed to freely express themselves because nobody in their right mind would adopt their ludicrous positions. But the opposing group countered with the argument, "The people elected Bush, didn't they?"
This shadowy group also offered to purchase 2 additional subscriptions to make up for the lost revenue caused by critical subscribers recently cancelling their HSO subscriptions. HSO officials said they could have used the extra funds, because without those 2 subscriptions their accountants were advising them to consider going into Chapter 11 Bandruptcy. However, the un-named HSO officer continued saying. "We could not in good conscience accept funds from terrorists".
The closing paragraph of the letter made some cryptic reference to Baker's campaign paying for the signage
improvements. But the "The Newton Field Coffee Group" also stated, that "We won't charge to Baker Campaign this time, we consider it an act of charity."

Scalia and Cheney - Manly Men

Emerging from mass in Boston on Sunday, U.S. Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia flipped a middle finger to the press. A Boston Herald reporter outside the Cathedral of the Holy Cross had asked Scalia, 70, if he faces much questioning over impartiality when it comes to issues separating church and state. "You know what I say to those people?" Scalia replied, making the obscene gesture. He explained, "That's Sicilian." A photographer with The Pilot, the Archdiocese of Boston's newspaper, caught the moment. "Don't publish that," Scalia told the photographer, the Herald said. The Herald today calls it "conduct unbecoming a 20-year veteran of the country’s highest court - and just feet from the Mother Church’s altar. "Noting his "don't publish that" statement, it noted that "one of his sworn duties is to uphold the freedom of the press."

INVESTIGATIVE REPORT: FLUFF UNCOVERED

Reform candidate James Baker once again made the elimination of "fluff electives" the centerpiece of his reform campaign. This intrepid rapporter felt that there must be more to Mr. Baker's obsession with fluff classes. So, one Freedom of Information Act request later, and this rapporter has obtained Mr. Baker's senior year transcript from the Ayn Rand Reform School of Flint, Michigan. I think this transcript speaks volumes about candidate James "fluff" Baker.

Attention all of you Anti-Jim-Baker types(and you know who you are)! If you are Anti-Jim-Baker(and you know who you are), then YOU MUST NOT LET THIS STAND! Please prepare for some late night excursions in order to rectify this situation. We will have a coffee meeting(if you know what I mean) and gather somewhere close to Newton Field in the dark of night. Baker Unveils Madison Ave. Campaign Ads

How To Vote 101 Baker Style

Hudson School Board Candidate James Baker today unveiled
his multi-penny campaign media blitz to convince Hudson voters
that despite the fact that most property tax payers saw a decrease in this year's taxe bill , the Baker team is convinced that taxes are skyrocketing a whopping 82%.
Baker could not be reached for comment on the media blitz but his campaign spokesman and media advisor Taxboy said.
"Mr. Baker's tax levy calculations are a clear demonstration of the "new fuzzy math" and an admission that "fuzzy math" can work when you want it to." The campaign also demonstrates that "The same high quality product can be produced without spending a penny".
"Just judge for yourself. Look at the quality & graphic craftmanship in our new campaign signs."
The Madison Ave. firm of Wheeze, Shawnuff, Killbear and Bubonic, were hired to design and roll out the new campaign.
Head designer Wheeze commented "We knew we were on a tight budget, but the design team was successful in achieving the Retro- Depression Era Farm Auction look that Mr. Baker requested.
"I'm proud of the results." said Wheeze.

Mr. Baker took advantage of the media roll out to announce his secret plan to raise math and science test
scores. Mr.Baker's fiscally conservative ( some say cheap skate ) approach was plainly evident as he
revealed his plans to downgrade or in his words "make use of appropriate technology" in the new, more
efficient labs. Baker was quoted earlier as saying " You don't NEED running water to do good science.
He also alluded to his plans to institute what he calls "lean" education. Under the Baker model, facilities would be rolled in ( literally ) on a "just in time " basis, as many union busting manufacturers do. "I've heard FEMA has an over supply of these units which we can take advantage of and save the taxpayer additional money"

Baker used the latest "hand crank technology" computing system, similar to the ones design for 3rd world nations without electricity, to project his pointless power slide show before an audience of his supporters. Many leaving the gathering were heard mumbling, "He could have cut more fat from the budget".

The Streets Of Bakersfield Mourn

Buck Owens 1929-2006
As is my first-thing daily habit, I check to the Pioneer Press obits. Today's sad news was the death of Buck Owens. Leader of the Buckaroos and Hee Haw star along with Roy Clark, Grampa Jones and a host of others, I've been a long time Buck. My record collection includes a good slice of Buck's greatest and not-so-famous hits.

One of my favorite CDs/LPS/cassettes is Buck Owens and the Buckaroos Live at Carnegie Hall. This is considered one of the best live recordings in country music period. If you want an hour of country music with a generous helping of good ol' buddy stage banter, this is the one to get. In addition to numerous greatest hits compilations, another good Buck CD is Young Buck which contains recordings from the early 1950s. If you're into bands like the Dessert Rose Band, Deraillers or BR-549 and don't know Buck, you will quickly understand who was the biggest influence on these youngsters. If you could get the four Beatles together and ask them who was their favorite country, they would say Buck Owens. Remember, all you got to do is Act Naturally.

If you like that guitar backing up those greatest hits of Buck, I suggest you pick up Don Rich and The Buckaroos: Country Pickin'. Rich was the guitar picker on all of Buck's 1960s hits. He was killed in a motorcycle accident in 1970 and this sent Buck into a long semi-retirement.

Merle Haggard and Buck came out of Bakersfield, CA around the same time. They even had the same wife -- at different times. If you want to listen to one of the big influences of both Haggard and Owens, pick up something by the Maddox Brothers and Rose. You won't be disappointed and you getting an excellent slug of the roots of electric honky-tonk music.

As Tom T. Hall wrote in "The Year That Clayton Delaney Died":

I know a lot of good preachers, who know a lot more than I do
But I bet the good Lord likes a little pickin' too...

Big Ugly Truck Gets Face Lift

Hudson's imfamous "Big Ugly Campaign Truck" got a face lift for this election.
Some say "It didn't work"
What's your opinion?

Black Lab Ponders Fate on OTBL?

After I hung up the phone to schedule a vision exam, because I couldn't believe my eyes, I read a comment on OTBL AGAIN!!! How could it have slipped though Killbear's "I Don't Hate Government School Blog Filter"?
But there it was in black (lab) and white. A statement actually daring to acknowledge that the Hudson Public School aren't condeming our children to eternal damnation and lifelong ignorance, worse yet given crdit to of all things TEACHERS.
To put this in context. Black Lab was indulging himself in the fantasy of being a school board candidate and anwsering on of the the questions posed to them at a recent forum.
Here's what Black Lab had to say.

"Please name three things the Hudson School District does well.

1. Credit where credit is due, I feel we have some outstanding educators in our system, in 20 years of having kids in the system the positives have outweighed the negatives in my experiences with teachers. Yes, there were a few really bad ones too. Communication between TEACHERS and parents was always good in my opinion. If there is a problem, it should stay confidential, but the parent should be informed of what action was taken. In my case the teacher suddenly disappeared the following year, I don't know if he was let go or found another job, but nobody seems to know where he went.

2. The Forensics, Music, and now theatre departments have given wonderful opportunity to the "non athletes" to excell. I realize the #1 priority of our schools should be basic education, but I also think participation in these programs can be a terrific learning experience.

3. While I don't know every detail, I think transportation polices are pretty efficient. I like the staggered school starting times, the district was definitely smart to contract out years ago. I don't know the policy for who gets bussed or who doesn't, and if it is a local decision or mandated by the state. The only problem I see is the difficulty in the contractor finding and hiring qualified bus drivers, if labor costs go up so do ours. Overall I think its been a pretty well run program.

UPDATE: Black Lab has "Breed Change" operation to save face.
