"You soccer people should be ashamed.

Soccer is evil, keep out of the reach of children."

Reasons why our President deserves a vacation...

Remember May 1, 2003?
A banner day for the President!

We all know President Bush has been workin' hard to bring democracy to the Middle East and here a some reasons why he needs a vacation...

1. MAY 1, 2003, ABOARD THE USS ABRAHAM LINCOLN UNDER THE BANNER "MISSION ACCOMPLISHED:"

"Major combat operations in Iraq have ended. In the battle of Iraq, the United States and our allies have prevailed. And now our coalition is engaged in securing and reconstructing that country."

2. OCT 23, 2003, WHITE HOUSE PRESS CONFERENCE IN RESPONSE TO QUESTIONS ABOUT THE "MISSION ACCOMPLISHED" COMMENTS:

"What I was saying is there's more than just terrorist attacks that are taking place in Iraq. There's schools opening, there are hospitals opening. The electricity -- the capacity to deliver electricity to the Iraqi people is back up to pre-war levels. ... I know it's a dangerous place. And I also know our strategy to rout them out -- which is to encourage better intelligence and get more Iraqis involved, and have our strike teams ready to move -- is the right strategy."

3. JAN. 20, 2004, STATE OF THE UNION ADDRESS:

"The work of building a new Iraq is hard, and it is right. And America has always been willing to do what it takes for what is right ... As democracy takes hold in Iraq, the enemies of freedom will do all in their power to spread violence and fear. They are trying to shake the will of our country and our friends, but the United States of America will never be intimidated by thugs and assassins ... Month by month, Iraqis are assuming more responsibility for their own security and their own future."

4. AUG. 5, 2004, A BUSH RE-ELECTION CAMPAIGN EVENT IN COLUMBUS, OHIO:

"We are safer -- we are safer and the world is better off because Saddam is sitting in a prison cell ... There must be a compelling national need to put our troops into harm's way. I felt that. I felt we had a compelling national need. I know we had tried diplomacy. I knew that diplomacy at this point couldn't possibly work because he had no intention of listening to demands of the free world. And when you put your troops in harm's way, you better have the best -- the best equipment, the best support, and the best possible pay."

5. JUNE 24, 2005, WELCOMING IRAQI PRIME MINISTER IBRAHIM JAAFARI TO THE WHITE HOUSE:

"We're optimistic that more and more Iraqi troops are becoming better trained to fight the terrorists. We're optimistic about the constitutional process. There is a political track that's moving forward in parallel with the security track. No question about -- it's difficult ... But nevertheless, progress is being made, and the defeat of the enemy -- and they will be defeated -- will be accelerated by the progress on the ground in Iraq that -- the establishment of a democratic state that listens to the hopes and aspirations of all the people in Iraq will lead to the defeat of this enemy."

6. JUNE 28, 2005, ADDRESS TO NATION FROM FORT BRAGG, N.C.:

"Our strategy can be summed up this way: As the Iraqis stand up, we will stand down. We've made progress, but we have a lot of -- a lot more work to do. Today Iraqi security forces are at different levels of readiness ... We're building up Iraqi security forces as quickly as possible, so they can assume the lead in defeating the terrorists and insurgents."

7. OCT. 16, 2005, STATEMENT AFTER IRAQ APPROVED CONSTITUTION:

"We're making progress toward peace. We're making progress toward an ally that will join us in the war on terror, that will prevent al Qaeda from establishing safe haven in Iraq, and a country that will serve as an example for others who aspire to live in freedom."

8. NOV 30, 2005, SPEECH TO NAVAL ACADEMY IN ANNAPOLIS, MARYLAND:

"In World War II, victory came when the empire of Japan surrendered on the deck of the USS Missouri. In Iraq, there will not be a signing ceremony on the deck of a battleship. Victory will come when the terrorists and Saddamists can no longer threaten Iraq's democracy, when the Iraqi security forces can provide for the safety of their own citizens, and when Iraq is not a safe haven for terrorists to plot new attacks on our nation. As we make progress toward victory, Iraqis will take more responsibility for their security and fewer US forces will be needed to complete the mission. America will not abandon Iraq."

Yesterday in Baghdad the Iraqis were exercising their democratic freedoms:

BAGHDAD (AP) - Hundreds of thousands of Shiites chanting "Death to Israel" and "Death to America" marched through the streets of Baghdad's biggest Shiite district Friday in a show of support for Hezbollah in its battle against Israel.

No violence was reported during the rally in Sadr City. But at least 35 people were killed elsewhere in the country, most of them in a car bombing and gun battle in northern Iraq.
---
Yesterday in Lebanon, with it's fledgling democracy...

Smoke rises from the Lebanese village of Bayada after a Israeli air strike yesterday. Dozens of Israeli raids overnight shook several villages in the southern regions of Tyre and Nabatiyeh, relatively far from the border to Israel. The Lebanese Shiite Hezbollah militia said yesterday that their guerrillas had killed at least six Israeli soldiers in southern Lebanon.
---
Yesterday in Washington, DC, Senator John Kerry issued a statement including this observation:

"With at least 2,578 Americans killed, over 19,000 wounded, and no end in sight, we simply cannot sit idly by as more of our kids die for a policy that isn't working. And we cannot be silent while this Administration continues to deny reality and repeat the same mistakes."
---
Yesterday in Washington, DC, President Bush announces...

he is cutting his vacation down to only 10 days — the shortest summer break of his presidency — against the backdrop of the Middle East in crisis, Baghdad beset by violence and Cuba in flux. Bush usually spends three to four weeks at his 1,600-acre spread near Crawford, Texas. His rest, though, has been marred by wars, a re-election campaign, anti-war protests and Hurricane Katrina.
---

Many people have cancelled the vacation plans this summer, because of oil...

In the first six months of the year, 14,338 Iraqi civilians were killed, mostly in sectarian violence. Prime Minister Maliki acknowledged last week that an average of 100 Iraqi civilians are being killed every day. Just think about that for a second: 100 people killed every day. And the violence has only been getting worse: 2,669 civilians were killed in May, and 3,129 civilians were killed in June. That's nearly 6,000 Iraqi civilians killed in the last two months alone. And since the February 22nd bombing of the Shia mosque in Samarra, the government reports that 30,359 families - or about 182,000 people - have fled their homes due to sectarian violence and intimidation.

And now for some light, crude humor...

U.S. Companies' Quarterly Profits Climb 19 percent, Lifted by Energy...

U.S. companies' second-quarter earnings rose by an average of 19 percent as energy producers, bolstered by record oil prices, regained their standing as the fastest-growing industry group.

On this date: 1964 - The Gulf of Tonkin Incident

In August 1964 , Congress passed the Tonkin Gulf Resolution—or Southeast Asia Resolution, as it is officially known—the congressional decree that gave Johnson a broad mandate to wage war in Vietnam. Its passage was a pivotal moment in the war and arguably the tipping point for the disaster that followed. The Resolution, passed by Congress on August 7, 1964, and signed into law on August 10, capped a series of events which remain controversial.

On the night of August 4, 1964, two American destroyers, the U.S.S. Maddox and C. Turner Joy, reported that they were being attacked by North Vietnamese military units in the Gulf of Tonkin, the body of water off the coast of central and North Vietnam. These alleged incidents followed reports of a similar engagement two days earlier, on August 2, between North Vietnamese PT boats and the Maddox. Characterizing these attacks as “unprovoked,” President Johnson ordered retaliatory strikes against North Vietnam and asked Congress to sanction any further action he might take to deter Communist aggression in Southeast Asia. Believing the administration’s account of these events, legislators acted swiftly, giving Johnson a virtual “blank check” to use U.S. military force in Vietnam.

Cheney and Rove seek to persuade America with perverse rhetoric

By Lee Salisbury
(Lee lives in Stillwater and this editorial appeared in the Stillwater Gazette)

How often do you turn on the TV and see movies of Adolf Hitler’s rise and fall in Germany? Commentators express amazement that an educated, civilized, Christian people could be beguiled by such a tyrant. In the early stages of the Nazi party’s rise to power, Hitler sold Germans on his sincere concern for the nation’s welfare. The armaments industry prospered. Employment rates were high. Germany could be proud of its brave soldiers and military might.

After the devastating losses of WWI, Germany could finally be confident that God was on their side. Hitler declared, "Today I believe that I am acting in accordance with the will of the Almighty Creator.” Germany’s pledge of allegiance included the phrase “eine Nation unter Gott”, i.e. “one nation under God.”

Hitler allied Germany with orthodox Christianity. Hitler wrote to the Nazi party, “The fact that the Vatican is concluding a treaty with the new Germany means the acknowledgement of our National Socialist state by the Catholic Church.”

In the 1946 Nuremberg war trials, Gustave Gilbert, a German-speaking U.S. intelligence officer and psychologist, recorded the insights of Hitler’s second-in-command Hermann Goring on how the populaces are manipulated into supporting and fighting wars by their political leaders. Goring stated, “People can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same way in any country.”

Authoritarian leaders are ineffective when people have confidence to think critically. The tool to neutralize critical thinking is ‘fear.’ There is always a percentage of people for whom ‘fear’ is a motivator in both religion and politics. These people would rather ‘believe what they’re told to believe’ than look objectively at evidence. As Goring said, it “is easy.” After playing up fear, demonize any who dare to think differently.

Hitler’s propaganda minister Joseph Goebbels declared, "We are waging this war for a better peace, we are fighting for the happiness of people…No power in the world will make us deny our duty, or forget even for a moment our historical task of maintaining the freedom of our people."

Goebbell waged war for peace and happiness. George Bush wages war for peace and happiness. Goebbell sought freedom for people. George Bush seeks freedom for people. Holland, Poland, Belgium, etc. were never a threat to Germany. Iraq was never a threat to America. Who profits from war? Only the armament industry profits. War is the profiteer’s dream world of cost overruns and no bid contracts. Can Americans be assured that its political leaders differ from the Goring/Goebbell/Hitler strategies?

Leonard W. Doob’s book Goebbels' Principles of Propaganda by reveals extraordinary parallels with the Bush White House:

1. Control the intelligence gathering agencies.

2. Plan and execute all propaganda by only one central authority.

3. The consequences of every action must be considered from the standpoint of its propaganda value.

4. Suppress information that contradicts desired outcomes.

5. Disseminate information/disinformation that supports desired outcomes.

6. Propaganda must be transmitted through an attention-getting communications medium, i.e. controlled media.

7. Believability alone must determine whether propaganda output is true or false.

8. Material from enemy propaganda may be utilized when it helps diminish that enemy's prestige or lends support to our propaganda objective.

9. Propaganda must be carefully timed, reach the audience ahead of competing propaganda, begin at the optimum moment, and the theme must be repeated.

10. Propaganda must label people with distinctive phrases or slogans consistent with desired responses.

11. Propaganda to the home front must create an optimum anxiety level.

12. Propaganda must facilitate aggression by specifying the targets for hatred.

13. Propaganda must provide diversion from negative events or news.

Republican rhetoric and policies as directed by Dick Cheney and Karl Rove closely parallel Goebbell’s principles. What does it tell us about Michele Bachmann when Cheney and Rove come to Minnesota to raise funds for her? These men have one obvious motive: they want a “rubber stamp” legislator who will support without question an agenda of unchecked presidential power exactly as required for any dictator’s unrestrained power. The Minnesota visit of Cheney and Rove to support Michele Bachmann speaks volumes about Bachmann. The state and national GOP adherence to the Goebbell principles should provide strong warning to those who love America.

George Santayana, philosopher best summed up America’s predicament, “Those who cannot learn from history are doomed to repeat it.”

Mel Gibson: Conservative media headline of the year

Help I've staggered, falled, pooped my pants, peed in the holding tank and called the police lady names...
Mel Gibson, director of Jesus gore-fest The Passion of the Christ, was pulled over for drunk driving early Friday morning, launching almost immediately into a Jew-hating tirade of, well, biblical proportions.

"F*****g Jews... The Jews are responsible for all the wars in the world." Gibson then asked the deputy, "Are you a Jew?"

In addition he threatened to...

President Bush Hands Reins of Power to Brother Jeb

President George W. Bush announced today that he was temporarily handing over
his powers as President of the United States to his brother Jeb.

The President was quoted as saying, " I need a vacation, and with the hurricane
season coming up, I thought Jeb would be the perfect man to have a wack a the job."
The President circumvented Congress, and the Constitution by making his temporary
replacement a "recess appointment". Brother Jeb stated, " I thought I'd give George
a break and it'd be a good idea to try the job on for size before the 2008 elections".

Upon hearing the news, spontaneous celebrations erupted in Miami's "Little Havana" .
One reveler told reporters, "Florida needs a vacation from Jeb too. WHOOOOOOEEEEEE!

The Clam Shell Alliance Protest at Seabrook Nuclear Plant

The Clamshell Alliance was formed in 1976 in order to protest the construction of a nuclear reactor in Seabrook, New Hampshire. It consisted of a loosely-knit coalition of anti-nuclear groups, mostly from New England, organized around a central office which served to disseminate information between groups and to coordinate group activities. The Alliance organized a number of direct, non- violent actions at Seabrook to voice their concerns between 1976 and the late eighties. The Alliance also organized and participated in other anti-nuclear activities in the state of New Hampshire and other areas.

The Neocons: Imperial Rulers and the Deadly Games They Play

Lamentations for the Sacrificial Pawns
by Jason Miller
Saturday July 29, 2006

As Israeli Defense Minister Amir Peretz recently boasted of “changing the reality on the northern border,” the citizens of Israel became the subjects of a serious reality change.

Appearing in a video-taped monologue aired on Al-Jazeera, Al Qaeda’s deputy leader, Ayman al-Zawahiri, called for a Muslim holy war against Israel and its Neocon enablers cowering behind their ramparts on Turtle Island:

"The shells and rockets ripping apart Muslim bodies in Gaza and Lebanon are not only Israeli (weapons), but are supplied by all the countries of the crusader coalition. Therefore, every participant in the crime will pay the price."

Make-shift morgues are amassing corpses of the civilian victims of the American Empire, its combative proxy in the Middle East, and Great Britain. Aside from these direct victims (the anonymous Islamic denizens of the Middle East slaughtered by the United States and British militaries and the IDF), there is another group of human beings who have died as a result of the predatory and rapacious actions of the “leaders of the free world."

Neocons: Cowboys Still in the Saddle

by Gary Leupp

Just as Time was announcing the "End of Cowboy Diplomacy" if not the twilight of the neocons, Israel's invasion of Gaza and Lebanon makes the neocons' dreams closer to realization. They want to attack Iran and Syria. The Israeli government also wants the U.S. to attack Iran and Syria. It is so concerned about U.S. plans for Iran that it has engaged in espionage to learn exactly how Washington is viewing the issue. Key neocons such as Richard Perle, Douglas Feith and David Wurmser (now Cheney's top Middle East advisor) urged the toppling of both these regimes plus Iraq in a paper written for the Israeli government in 1996. The administration has been gradually implementing the "Clean Break" strategy, employing the "pre-emptive self-defense" argument for aggression hitherto most used by the Israelis.
