ELK MOUND—While school districts in the rest of the state are anticipating declining enrollment over the next four years, the Elk Mound School District expects enrollment to increase.

“The Elk Mound School District will not reflect the state trend,” said Bob Colson, director of Dunn County Planning, Resources and Development, during a community forum held Wednesday at Elk Mound High School April 19. Three-quarters of the seats in the high school auditorium were occupied by district residents and school staff members interested in finding out what growth in the area would mean for the school district.

The predicted state-wide trend is that school enrollments will continue to decrease until 2010, and from 2010 to 2030, enrollments are expected to increase, Colson said. Over the next 20 years, the Elk Mound district is projected to have a 27 percent growth rate, compared to a projected growth rate of 13 percent for Dunn County, Colson said.
