Scuffle over grapes cost 45 days in jail

A grocery shopper will serve 45 days in jail for attacking an off-duty St. Paul police officer who warned her not to snack on grapes.

Tameca Sharrell Griffin said she sampled two grapes from the produce section when uniformed officer Laura Syring, who was working security for Rainbow Foods, told her to stop.

Witnesses at the store in the Payne-Phalen neighborhood said Griffin was grazing.

In June, a jury convicted Griffin of felony assault and obstructing legal process after it heard conflicting accounts of the confrontation in the produce section and the ensuing melee that included hair pulling, tussling and the use of pepper spray, a nightstick and a Taser.
