Sheyawn Hannity Gets Bitch Slap

The Document Sean Hannity Doesn't Want You To Read

"Don't believe the slander and lies the MoveOn.org, liberal media media says about me."

Sheyawn Hannity

Why?...becuase its true!

Speaking at the Take Back America conference on June 3, American Progress CEO John Podesta said, "I think when you get so distant from the facts as -- as guys like Limbaugh and Sean Hannity do, yeah, I think that tends to -- it kind of -- it tends to corrupt the dialogue." Apparently he struck a nerve with Fox News' Sean Hannity. Hannity challenged Podesta to "defend and explain one example where I -- where I said something that was so false." Since choosing just one of Hannity's distortions is too difficult, here are fifteen examples:

All Hannity quotes from Hannity and Colmes unless otherwise noted.

HANNITY: "You're not listening, Susan. You've got to learn something. He had weapons of mass destruction. He promised to disclose them. And he didn't do it. You would have let him go free; we decided to hold him accountable." (4/13/04)

FACT: Hannity's assertion comes more than six months after Bush Administration weapons inspector David Kay testified his inspection team had "not uncovered evidence that Iraq undertook significant post-1998 steps to actually build nuclear weapons or produce fissile material" and had not discovered any chemical or biological weapons. (Bush Administration Weapons Inspector David Kay, 10/2/03)

Now we know that Saddam had chemical weapons; he used them in the Iran/Iraq war against the Iranians and he used them in the late 1980's against defenseless Kurd civilians in northern Iraq.

After the first Gulf War, Saddam disclosed his inventory of WMD to UN and coalition forces, and agreed to document their destruction. But he failed to so document the destruction of that inventory, and as such raised fears that he continued to wield this weaponry.

Saddam lied about his WMD inventory after the gulf war, lied about whether he destroyed it, or lied about what became of it. In any event, I think a case can be made that Saddam lied himself into the Iraq war.

Roadkill:

Of course Saddam had chemical weapons. He got some of the technology to deliver them from the US. Haven't you seen the footage of Rumsfelt and Saddam in the 1980s?

My guess is Saddam, like our current and past presidents, have lied about many things for many reasons.

What qualifies as a WMD?

Sunny,

You are correct that the US supported Saddam in his war against Iran, and may have transferred technology that could be used to deliver WMD.

The term "Weapons of Mass Destruction" has traditionally included nuclear, biological, and/or chemical weaponry.

As for our fleeting if emphemeral support of Iraq, remember that international power struggles are nasty, and the addage "the enemy of my enemy is my friend" is often apropos.

I think that Saddam, lanquishing in his Lake of Fire in Hades, might be wondering if maintaining good relations with the US might not have worked out better for him in the long run.
