Bob Ziller Impressed With How New School Board Member is Unprepared
Today on OTBL, Bob Ziller provided his thoughts on last night's New Richmond School Board working meeting.
Ziller said: "When pressed to commit to some form of building program, newly elected board member, Bob Sievert, said that he hadn’t had time to review the Long Range Planning Committee Report and my alternative proposal to make a definitive decision. I’m impressed with this new board member who sees the necessity of researching any big financial commitment for the district and, most importantly, the taxpayers. "
The LRPC report was issued on March 8, 2006, one full month before the election, and six weeks prior to last night's meeting. It is arguably the most important document in front of the New Richmond School Board right now. One has to question why Mr. Sievert has not had time to review it yet. Unlike Bob Ziller, I don't think being unprepared is very impressive.
Maybe Mr. Sievert just needs time to review the report to find ways to poke holes in it - so it will sink. Then New Richmond could go to the Ziller Alternative: A district of small country schools where the schoolmarms chop their own wood - and year-round too!

It's too bad Ziller didn't attend the candidate forum in Hudson. The issue of year long school was discussed quite thouroughly ( or should I say all the unforseen ramifications) of year long school which Ziller has not even begun to address.
Issue include but are not limited to:
1. Additional cost to pay teacher and maintain facilities. (Does Ziller think teacher should automatically add a couple months work to their scheduled for no compensation.
2. Staggered schedules of members of the same family. It's virtually impossible now to plan a family vacation year round school would seal that reality in stone.
3. What about additional cost of insurance, scheduling down time for
cleaning and maintanence.
What about Air Conditioning costs in Summer or is 90 degree weather conducive to learning?
These are some of multiple issues that year round school would need to address of which Ziller has discussed zero. From what I heard at the forum, it's obvious that the cost to benifit ratio of this idea probably makes it a no-Go from the start.
Nobody likes this idea except Ziller and his penny pinching borderline buddies. And even the pinching part is questionable.

NOBODY has EVER approached an NR school board member with the year-long schooling "option" other than Ziller. How would he feel if the board moved forward with an idea pushed by ONE voter who didn't even have all of the facts? Hypocrite.
I was at a meeting when Ziller mentioned the year round idea to the board during open forum. Every board member got a big smurk on their faces and chuckle. Lester make a couple of notes, thanked Bob and the meeting got started.
FYI: Stillwater is actually discussing the idea.
If Stillwater is considering this,
they better callout the public officials to test the H20 over there!

I've ever heard. BTW, Bobzy Z. Ever heard of Dairy Queen? There's a business that has the good sense to close it's doors for a season that's not approppriate for their product.
