What's Wrong With This Picture?

A co-worker told me about the story below concerning an incident between two six year olds -- a boy and a girl -- and some touching above the waist that led to the boy being expelled. I Googgled on "6-year old" and found a whole list of stories about the life of 6-years old in the United States -- most of them terrible and disgusting. I kept listing stories until I got to a one that I associate with being 6-years old -- the Cub Scouts' Pinewood Derby competition.

Some of these stories involve schools, some parents and relatives, one the family dog and others random acts of deadly, crippling violence. There's much complaining on the right and in the Bush administration about the reporting on the Iraq war and how the "good stuff" isn't getting reported. It looks to me that the same thing can be true about the reporting on 6-year olds.

What the hell happened?

A 6-year-old Brockton boy's suspension on accusations of sexual harassment startled some school officials in the region yesterday; the officials said they avoid the words ''sexual harassment" when trying to teach young children about appropriate touching.
