If the local "Libertarians" are so concerned with Liberty, why is it that they dig into the most miniscule detail of the law to curtail messages they don't like from getting out? Remember these people are the local "Free Speech" advocates. For example, local Libertarian blog, uncommoninstight.com complained about a recent presentation offering scientific research concerning global warming. In a letter on their blog to the non-profit sponsoring this event they write: "I feel your involvement with Gore's political group is outside of CA's purpose or mission. As a 501(c)3, your organization operates under very strict limits on political activities such as that in which "The Climate Project" is clearly engaged. The IRS warns non-profits such as CA that "An organization will be regarded as attempting to influence legislation if it contacts, or urges the public to contact, members or employees of a legislative body for the purpose of proposing, supporting, or opposing legislation, or if the organization advocates the adoption or rejection of legislation." This is the express intent and action of Mr. Tarr's organization. "
There is little that is of interest to the inquisitive mind that is not controversial and thus "political". Imagine the dullness of a world run by these Libertarians would now act as the local "Thought Police" determining which messsages should and should not be presented in public. Their concept of "Liberty" is frightening indeed...agreement with their point of view or shut up, similar to the Bush administration.... "our way of the highway".
Instead of trying to curtial the speech of others, why don't they pay corporate stooge Steve Maloy, or some other science fact twister from the Competitive Enterprise Institute to give their own presentation? Answer: 1. Steve Miloy don't work cheap. 2. Nobody would attend.
There'll be war, there'll be peace. But everything one day will cease. All the iron turned to rust; All the proud men turned to dust. And so all things, time will mend.So this song will end.
