McCain: Swamp Land In Arizona? No Problem!

McCain Pushed Land Swap That Benefits Backer
(Pssst...it's called "politics.")

PRESCOTT, Ariz. -- Sen. John McCain championed legislation that will let an Arizona rancher trade remote grassland and ponderosa pine forest here for acres of valuable federally owned property that is ready for development, a land swap that now stands to directly benefit one of his top presidential campaign fundraisers].

Weasel,

Come on, you can do better than that. Heck, I’ll bet there are 535members of congress who push legislation of one type or another that could be said to benefit a backer. For example, all pro-education bills could be said to be a pay-offs to the NEA, and any legislation favorable to labor could be said to benefit union backers.

But if you want to bash McCain, let's resurrect the old Keating 5 scandal. Remember this:

“The Keating Five were five United States Senators who were accused of corruption in 1989, igniting a major political scandal as part of the larger Savings and Loan crisis of the late 1980s and early 1990s. The five senators – Alan Cranston (D-CA), Dennis DeConcini (D-AZ), John Glenn (D-OH), John McCain (R-AZ), Donald W. Riegle (D-MI) – were accused of improperly aiding Charles H. Keating, Jr., chairman of the failed Lincoln Savings and Loan Association, which was the target of an investigation by the Federal Home Loan Bank Board.

“After a lengthy investigation, the Senate Ethics Committee determined in 1991 that Alan Cranston, Dennis DeConcini, and Donald Riegle had substantially and improperly interfered with the FHLBB in its investigation of Lincoln Savings, while John Glenn and John McCain had been only minimally involved. The Committee recommended censure for Cranston and criticized the other four for "questionable conduct."

“All five of the senators involved served out their terms, but only Glenn and McCain ran for re-election (and were subsequently re-elected).”

Messy politics, that. Then again, it could also be characterized as just another example of John McCain reaching out to work with members across the aisle!

Note the line "Psssst...it's called politics."

535 Congress members and 100 Senators...

I thought this was interesting from the perspective that it is everyday business in politics. I suspect this will be a big part of the Democrats campaign. They will be painting McCain as a political puppet for his big campaign contributors. McCain will do his repent speeches and tell us his interests are only in want good for the people of America.

I'm totally shocked that you would try and paint Democrats are the ones that would try to bend the system to help out their constituents. Democrats don't do that stuff. It's only the Republican puppets that are paid to dance by the plutocrats of corporate greed.
