I've heard enough of this argument already. It needs to end. It is not hypocritical or in any way dishonest to be against an unfair program and seek its repeal while simultaneously taking advantage of said unfair program so one is not left behind. Would you seriously refuse a free handout knowing that it would just go elsewhere if you didn't take it just bacause you disapproved of the free handout program?

What a hypocrite Daniel. Whine about a "unfair" program and then take advantage of it? Do you have sense of principle or integrity.
Let's just operate on the definition of Hypocrite: a person who pretends to have virtues, moral or religious beliefs, principles, etc., that he or she does not actually possess, especially a person whose actions belie stated beliefs.
That fits each of these public officials. End of argument!!

Your definition of hypocrite does not cover this activity. It is very possible for these people to be very sincere in their beliefs against having a subsidy system, but to realize it is in their interest to take advantage of it while it still exists.

I'll try to put it a different way. Suppose I took your last beer as part of a redistribution program - the one you were looking forward to after work - and the nearest open store is 40 miles away. You cry that it is an unfair program and call the police. I state that you will probably win in the end after the trial, but in the meantime I offer you what I deem to be your share (some of what I stole from others). Would you refuse?

You imply that it takes integrity to refuse, but I have the integrity not to refuse.

I don't know the motives of these individuals, but if I could easily apply for some sort of subsidy, I would take it to get back some of what I deserve that was taken from me in the form of taxes to pay for it. I might even share it with others in similar situations but could not get the subsidy.
