Mandatory Gratuity v. The Teachers' Union

This morning I ran into this editorial cartoon that seems to follow with some on the discussion below concerning public- and private-school teacher pay and benefits. What do you think?

Note: I these comments, it would be helpful to those of us participating to have participants make up a post name or number. All you have to do is click other and make up your name. From the administration side of things , I can tell the difference from some one using the "anonymous" names or an "other" name. You post goes to the bolgspot.com sever and transfers to the web site e-mail account (ohwilber@yahoo.com) with the blogspot.com e-mail address. Or, I you would like to be setup with posting rights, you need to send you e-mail adress to the ohwilber address so I can setup you up. Posting rights lets you set up your own post topic. Or, if you'd like to start another topic and do want to be the poster, e-mail us and we set it up.

Just remember, here at AboveTheBorderLine, we might be vendictive, cruel and nasty, but at least we are open-minded and open for discussions on all sides of the issues. Thanks for you participation and comments."

Concerning the comparison between mandatory gratuity and the teachers' union, I think it is an interesting thought as to how teachers are evaluated. Are teachers evaluated on their individual performance, by their peers, by the administration, by the students? Does anyone know how this works in the local public school system?
