Keith Olbermann named Fox News host Bill O'Reilly the winner of his nightly "Worst Person in the World" award for O'Reilly's false claim that "no far-right person in this country" is "going to get on the cover of Time magazine." As Media Matters for America noted, Time has featured a number of right-wing pundits including Ann Coulter, whom O'Reilly explicitly compared to Dixie Chicks lead singer Natalie Maines: "[I]f you were going to make an example of somebody who takes rhetoric to the extreme, Ann Coulter would be probably your best right-wing shot."
The Dixie Chicks are Nashville refugees for reasons of politics and personality -- but the trio found redemption at the 49th annual Grammy Awards with five awards, including song, record and album of the year.

Are the Chicks awards a result of their quality music, the acceptance of their disdain for Bush, or a combination of the two? Maybe America has finally ready to admit that they put a knucklehead back in the White House in 2004.
Can't really say what brings all that hardware into the hands of the Chicks. I don't own any of their music and haven't attended any of their concerts.
I believe they've been shunned on commercial country radio and cancelled concert dates because of low ticket sales. Maybe this is an example of the "liberal conspiracy" in the entertainment industry thumbing its middle finger at the corporate interests trying to squish individual opinion in the name of patriotism.
1. Time magazine is worse than Newsweek, a magazine which of course is itself a slap in the face to people who can read.
2. The Dixie Chicks sing country music; I would rather listen to African tribal chanting than country music.
Anon -- I don't think the Grammys "speak for the American people" as you seem to suggest.
In fact, I know they don't.

You're right, Grammys don't speak for the American public. But give the girls credit for having a spine and speaking their mind about the embarassment that holds the highest office in our country.

The CMA awards might actually speak for the American public. That or American Idle. It's a sad state of affairs,
American "Culture".
As far as the liberal media conpiracy goes... I'll bet Rush was involuntarily gyrating in his chair, ala his Michael J. Fox imitation when he heard the news of these awards.
Haven't listened to African tribal chanting for a while, but Cato's right it's more enjoyable than Country. But since there are only 2 kinds of music, Country and Western, African tribal chanting may fall into the Country Category.
