A film adaptation of the 1957 novel Atlas Shrugged, by Ayn Rand, is now showing in couple of theaters across the nation. The release of the film has coincided with a resurgence of popularity for Rand on the American Right.

TEA Party members have been heard to boost that they have now read one other book than the Constitution. They have also mentioned that Atlas Shrugged is quickly becoming the favored boat achor for the TEA Party fishing crowd.

The trailer for Atlas Shrugged had its world premier at this year’s CPAC conference, the Tea Party group FreedomWorks has rolled out a massive campaign to promote the film, and the story’s opening line — “Who is John Galt?” — has appeared on numerous signs at Tea Party rallies.

Paul Rand, Ron Rand, Ru Paul, Whatever Meet Ayn Ryan

Some of the right’s leading political and media lights have heaped praise upon Ayn Rand. The author of the Republicans’ new budget plan to gut Medicare and Medicaid, Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI), has said Rand is the reason he entered politics, and requires his staff to read her work. Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) and Rep. Ron Paul (R-TX) have both declared themselves devotees of her writing. Conservative Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas has his law clerks watch the film adaptation of Rand’s book The Fountainhead. She’s also received accolades from right-wing pundits Sean Hannity, Rush Limbaugh, Glenn Beck, John Stossel, and Andrew Napolitano.

During her lifetime, Rand advocated “the virtue of selfishness,” declared altruism to be “evil,” opposed Medicare and all forms of government support for the middle-class and the poor, and condemned Christianity for advocating love and compassion for the less fortunate.

"Kiss my black, Muslim-American ass." NEW YORK - A Georgia woman has claimed responsibility for sending a severed pig's foot to Rep. Peter King (R-N.Y.) earlier this month, apparently in protest over a hearing he held on radical Islam. Jacquelyn Barnette, who described herself as Muslim, told the New York Post Thursday that she sent King the package, which also contained an anti-Semitic note. The US Postal Service intercepted the package before it ever reached King's office. "I thought the letters explain themselves," Barnette said. Asked about her comments, King told FOX News she "seems to be a disturbed person." "I'll let the police decide how to deal with her. I don't want to do anything to encourage her or others like her," he said. In March, King held high-profile congressional hearings on Islamic radicalization in the US, saying he aimed to confront the threat of homegrown extremism. Jim Haney Outgoing head of Wisconsin Manufacturers & Commerce Detroit's notorious Purple Gang of the 1920s and early 1930s engaged in - among other nefarious things - a protection racket against shopkeepers. According to one account, they got the name Purple Gang because they would threaten to throw purple dye and ruin the laundry of local dry-cleaning stores. You know the phrase from dozens of gangster movies: "Nice little shop ya got here. Be too bad if something happened to it." Purple Gang tactics are being used in Wisconsin. A public employee union local, embroiled in a battle with elected officials of that state, are now dragging in local shopkeepers - sending them letters demanding that they post signs in their windows supporting the unions or face a union boycott. Jim Haney, the outgoing head of Wisconsin Manufacturers & Commerce, a pro-business lobby, said the union effort was appalling. And he said the campaign would backfire.
