The latest accusations involve the William Floyd district in Suffolk County, where an audit uncovered $6.4 million in inappropriate spending, including instances where the superintendent increased salaries for himself and nine other administrators over several years without school board approval, Hevesi said. That's besides $1.5 million that former William Floyd administrators admitted stealing last year.
The scandal is the latest in a series involving Long Island school districts. There have been arrests in seven districts, including William Floyd, since an audit of the Roslyn school district two years ago found that more than $11 million was stolen from its treasury. Six people have pleaded guilty in that case.
